Amazon Consent Signal with CookieHub

The Amazon Consent Signal (ACS) is Amazon’s own format for telling Amazon Ads whether a visitor has consented to advertising. Amazon Ads only accepts personal data about visitors from the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA) when it comes with a valid consent signal.

CookieHub supports the Amazon Consent Signal from version 2.9.1. Turn it on under Integrations in your domain’s settings, and CookieHub passes each visitor’s choice to Amazon Ads automatically.

When you need the Amazon Consent Signal

You need it if you use Amazon Ads, such as the Amazon Ad Tag, for visitors in the UK or the EEA, and your website does not use IAB TCF in those regions.

Amazon accepts an IAB TCF consent string, a Global Privacy Platform (GPP) string or the Amazon Consent Signal, and only one is needed. If more than one is present, Amazon uses the TCF consent string. On websites that do not use IAB TCF, CookieHub sends the Amazon Consent Signal.

What CookieHub sends to Amazon

The Amazon Consent Signal has two parameters, each set to GRANTED or DENIED. CookieHub sets both from the visitor’s choice for the Marketing category:

amzn_ad_storage:

whether advertising cookies, or similar technologies, can be read and written on the visitor’s device.

amzn_user_data:

whether Amazon can process the visitor’s personal data, such as advertising identifiers, for advertising.

DENIED until the visitor chooses:

both parameters stay DENIED until the visitor makes a choice. The Analytics, Preferences and Necessary categories are not used by Amazon.

How to set it up

If CookieHub is installed with its script tag:

  1. Add the CookieHub script to the head section of your website.
  2. Enable Amazon Consent Signal under Integrations in your domain’s Settings tab, and click Save & publish.

Consent signals are then applied automatically when visitors accept or reject cookies.

If CookieHub is installed with Google Tag Manager:

  1. In your GTM container, add a new tag and choose the CookieHub CMP template from the Community Template Gallery.
  2. Enter your CookieHub domain code.
  3. Set the trigger to Consent Initialization - All Pages, then save and publish.
  4. Enable Amazon Consent Signal under Integrations in your domain’s Settings tab, and click Save & publish.

You do not need to change your Amazon Ad Tag. If your website uses a Content Security Policy, allow scripts from https://c.amazon-adsystem.com.

Websites that use IAB TCF

In regions where IAB TCF applies, CookieHub does not send the Amazon Consent Signal, because Amazon reads the TCF consent string instead. If you use IAB TCF 2.4, make sure Amazon is one of the vendors in your IAB TCF settings.
